So, you just sat down with one of our awesome and knowledgeable employees, you have picked out your dream floor plan, and building is about to begin. Exciting times…and then you realize that you actually have to go through the daunting task of moving. Don’t fear, we have put together a list of helpful moving tips to make your moving experience a breeze.

Get Started Early: Where do you start? You are getting ready to pack up all of your belongings, and it is normal to feel a bit overwhelmed. We recommend starting early. Pack up seasonal belongings and items that you aren’t going to use first. Really think about whether or not you are going to use that blender that has been sitting in the cabinet for the past six months. If it has really been that long, chances are you aren’t going to be making margaritas any time soon.

Organize Based on Rooms: Packing up a room at a time seems logical, right? Well, you should really try to think about what room the belongings are going to end up in at your new house. Packing in an organized fashion will make it easier to unpack later.

Don’t Over Pack: It is easy to put a box on the counter and start stuffing it until it is full. You do all of that work, proudly seal the top, and then you realize that the box weighs as much as you do, and there is no way that you are going to be able to lift it. So you have to spend the next 30 minutes unpacking half of the box into another box.

Use Sticky Notes: Once you have finished packing, you will have to unpack. (I know…it seems like some sort of cruel joke!) Go into your new home and decide where you want everything to go, before you bring a single box in. Label the drawers in the kitchen and the doors to each room to keep confusion to a minimum. The more organized you are, the less likely you are to misplace something.

Invite Friends to Help: Moving is one of those “the more the merrier” kind of situations. If everything is already labeled (see above tip!), than they won’t have to ask you where things are going. Just order some pizza and stock up on cold beer, and watch the helpers arrive!

We are excited about your upcoming move, and you should be too! Hopefully, these tips will make your moving experience a little easier…or at least provide you with some inspiration to keep from throwing everything away and starting over (let’s be honest, that sounds easier!)
